Versatile Trumpeter, Technologist, Educator

Dr. Derek Ganong is Assistant Professor of Trumpet and Director of Jazz at Boise State University. He teaches courses in music technology, commercial music, improvisation, entrepreneurship, and directs the Boise State Jazz Orchestra. In addition, Derek is the executive and artistic director of the Gene Harris Jazz Festival and serves as a liaison between the music department and  various local/national/international music industry entities. Derek is internationally known for his multifaceted skills and is frequently in demand for both his commercial music/media/engineering skills and as a trumpeter with the skills and experiences to perform at the highest level in all musical settings. Derek is currently the principal trumpet of the Boise Baroque Orchestra, Opera Idaho, and is Soprano cornet for the Brass Band of the Treasure Valley. He is also a founding member of Newstream Brass, the Nova Trumpet Collective, and the Brass Institutes of American. Dr. Ganong is a Conn-Selmer performing artist.
